We have a wonderful pitch over in Preston Antiques that is brimming with fresh stock – including a mid-century long john sideboard, and a superb Arts Metal 1940’s two draw desk (both pictured above). We also have some beautiful newly upholstered wingback chairs in stunning original fabric – these chairs are one offs – antique and re-covered in exclusive and top-quality fabrics.

I try and find things that are fresh to market and that have an original quality to them. Verve is important to us and we want that reflected in our stock. If you are planning a day hunting for vintage and antiques then please come and see us at  Preston Antiques Centre – 3 floors, over 40 dealers in the largest centre in the North West.

July Stock

I currently have some very special stock. I was lucky to find some superb large antique armchairs and took the plunge to do something daring using fabric by Glasgow design studio Timorous Beasties. I chose Storm Blotch velvet to create a one-off chair that really has the wow factor. You won’t find another chair of this quality and craftmanship – marry that with hand made velvet and you have a statement piece that can’t be ignored.

Something you don’t see everyday is a reclaimed French Methodist Alter. This former alter would make a fantastic console/hall/lounge or serving table – it’s a lovely solid piece that would look wonderful with the right mirror above it.

I also have a few nice kitchen pieces in stock including a large welsh dresser and a Belgium Cheese dresser – both are available to view at Preston Antiques Centre 7 days a week

One of my favourite purchases has been a pair of inlaid Victorian smokers’ chairs – possibly Italian – their style and shape are extremely beautiful and elegant. The fabric was tired, so we refurbished and reupholstered using Fibre Naturelle velvet creating a pair of chairs that are hard to beat and even harder to find.

The Impossible dream !

Keen observers of our shop in Clitheroe may have noticed that it is now empty. Well the decision to flee came slowly then gathered pace as I weighed up the pros and cons of shop life. While the shop was a necessity at first, acting as photo studio, storage space and retail outlet it quietly began to lose its lustre as footfall fell off a cliff.  Talk about a DRAG ! I’m not the guy to sit there and wait for customers while sitting on my hands.  Life’s far to short..& my feet are far to itchy. I crave movement – I want to stay fluid not static. My forte is being out and about sourcing great stock, eating bacon butties, camping folk, walking the dog and fishing on the river Ribble for Salmon.

I had a dilemma ….. how to trade, keep the fun stuff rolling and earn just enough to enable me to maintain my self employed status….. If only I could have a shop that was a popular destination for public and trade for antiques, collectables, art, furniture and other class acts. A large space populated by other discerning dealers, well presented pitches, with quick links to the mighty M6 and open the preverbal seven days a week……..That was run by a knowledgeable band of friendly staff. Preferably the drive to it would take me parallel to the river Ribble, allowing me to fish yet not be too far from work ………..A Nirvana – surely I wanted to much….It was just an impossible dream…

Step forward Preston Antiques Centre…….A quick chat and a tour was all it took – I had seen the light & I didn’t need telling twice. Open 7 days and the best bit is I don’t need to be there ! Rejoice & Floss your arse off…..

All our stock is now on display on the 1st floor at Preston Antiques Centre, The Mill, New Hall Ln, Preston PR1 5NQ – OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK.  20 plus dealers under one roof – lovely large well kept pitches curated by discerning dealers – its a superb space for anybody looking to enhance their home.
