We’ve had a change round in the shop and redone our window displays – we are full of winter vibes and itching to get the home fires burning. Eject that sense of guilt that sunshine and long summer evenings can generate – lose & dismiss the I really should be outside doing something constructive shit-heal of a thought process brought on by natural daylight – its not healthy. Summers gone and it wont be back for months – now is the time to get plotted up guilt free. You know the dance – fire on – warm – comfortable – supreme food & wine – music, book or movie. REMEMBER you have no choice – its dark, pissing down and cold outside. Give the outside two fingers, put your feet up and reach for the cheese knife & corkscrew
Its not big or clever but Christmas is coming and preparations must be made – hey, I’m not happy about it either – if I could eat enough and sleep through it I would – like George the former Blue Peter tortoise – tipex my name on my back – put me in a cardboard box, fill it with straw, tape the sucker up & hope the rats don’t eat me alive – wake me up when its all over so I can survey the damage.
No, that’s not the attitude – its a fun filled family time that’s brimming with joy and kindness – a time for watching yet another star infested adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas carol – FFS. No, its about happy smiling grasping faces waiting for Santa to max your credit card or blow your overdraft limit to tiny fragments of magical debt dust.
Hey its easy to be cynical at Christmas so stick your face in a bucket of ice and snap out of it & get on board the happy times express – all the big brands are there but now with slay bells, holly, snow flakes and miles n miles of fake smiles.
By complete accident I seem to have made the top showroom into a bar, featuring killer cool seating, 70’s corner bar, gaming table, slot machine, turntable and movie memorabilia – hold up – its for display purposes only ! The showroom window is that of a comfy cosey fireside scene – two reupholstered Parker knolls are auditioning for ready steady sleep, in front of a hand carved mahogany fire surround and cast iron fire place. On the circular coffee table sits a copy of Kingsley Amis’s Everyday Drinking – which by the way features one of the best Bloody Mary recipes ever.
